What it does
Instructors and the areas they cover
Each instructor keeps their own profile: manual or automatic, the car, languages, specialisms and a quote. You set the postcode districts each one covers, and learners only see instructors who cover their pickup.
Online booking with the pickup
Learners give their postcode and gearbox, then choose a lesson, an instructor or “any instructor”, a day and a free time. Requests you confirm or instant, a reminder the day before and a link to move, change the pickup or cancel.
Several lessons in one booking
Learners can book the same time every week for a number of lessons, or every week until a date, with the same instructor. Every lesson gets the same checks, and they’re booked together or not at all. Block hours (Pro) pay for as many as they cover.
Learners, parents and test dates
Records keep the essentials: provisional licence yes or no (never the number), the theory pass and the test date and result. Parents of under-18s get a copy of every email. Pass stories are only published with the learner’s agreement.
Block hours, learner accounts and travel time (Pro)
Sell blocks of hours and courses, counted down lesson by lesson. Learners sign in to see their next lessons, hours left, test tracker and progress. The diary keeps the drive between areas free.
Three designs and real photos
Signal, Neighbour and Glide, each with seven colour palettes, and sample photos from Pexels with the photographers credited.
Who it’s for
Independent instructors
One instructor, one car: a profile you keep up to date yourself, the postcodes you cover, your own hours and days off, and lessons booked online with the pickup.
Driving schools with a team
Up to three instructors offered for booking on Starter, each with their own diary, areas and gearbox. On Pro, as many as you have and an Office role for whoever runs the diary.
Automatic and course-based schools
Manual and automatic prices side by side, and on Pro blocks of hours and weekly, semi-intensive or intensive courses, sold online or at the desk.
What you’d otherwise put together
A site like this usually means choosing several products from different makers and getting them to work together. A kit is one thing, made to fit.
Putting it together yourself
- A premium theme
- A booking plugin that understands instructors, pickups and postcodes
- Something to keep learner records, test dates and parent contacts
- A plugin to sell lesson packages and count down the hours
- An add-on for staff accounts and roles
- Setting it all up and keeping it working together after every update
One kit: Gradespace Driving
- Website, design and features designed and built together
- One licence, paid once
- One setup wizard that adds the pages, menu and sample content
- Updates for the plugin and theme tested together
Ready-made staff roles come with every tier; choosing exactly what each role can do needs Pro or Agency.

How updates, your licence, your data and help work, now and later.
How updates work
Updates come straight from thegradespace.com, over a secure connection with time-limited download links for your licensed site. They install with one click from the WordPress Updates screen, like any other plugin. We test each release against the current version of WordPress before it goes out, and every release says which WordPress version it’s tested up to.
What “lifetime licence” means
You pay once. The licence lasts for life and every future update is included: there are no renewals or subscriptions. If our server can’t be reached, your site carries on as it is.
Your data stays on your website
Bookings, records, messages and content are kept in your own WordPress database, on your own hosting. There is no Gradespace cloud. Our server only sees your licence key and website address, when your site checks its licence and updates.
Help when you need it
Every kit comes with a step-by-step getting-started guide and a printable guide for your staff. For anything else, write to us and we’ll help.

Questions
- Can learners book several lessons at once?
- Yes. On the last step of booking, a learner can choose several lessons at the same time every week (up to 12 to start with; you set the most in Settings → Lessons) or every week until a date. Each lesson gets the same checks as one on its own: the pickup in an area the instructor covers, the minimum age and, on Pro, the travel time. They’re booked with one instructor, or not at all if one week has gone, and the learner is told which. A first lesson is still booked on its own. On Pro, a signed-in learner can pay for every lesson with their block hours, and the hours come back when a lesson is cancelled.
- How does the postcode check work?
- Each area you cover has its postcode districts (like NG2 or NG12; a sector like NG2 5 works too), and each instructor has the areas they cover. Online, learners are only offered instructors who cover their pickup postcode. If nobody does, the website says so and offers the Ask us form instead. Lessons you add yourself skip the check.
- What about learners under 18 and licence numbers?
- Learners must be at least 17 on the day of the lesson. Under-18s, from their date of birth, give a parent or guardian’s name, email and phone, and the parent gets a copy of every confirmation, reminder, change, cancellation, receipt and test date. The website only asks whether they hold a provisional licence, never the number, and takes anything that looks like a licence number out of notes.
- Where are learner records kept?
- In your own WordPress database, on your own hosting. Records come up for review after the period you choose and nothing is deleted automatically; WordPress’s personal data export and erase tools include them. Our server only sees your licence key and website address.
- Is it a one-off payment?
- Yes. You pay once, the licence lasts for life and every future update is included. There are no renewals or subscriptions.
- What do I need to run it?
- A WordPress website (6.8 or later, PHP 8.0 or later) on any ordinary host. You install the free Gradespace Core plugin, the kit’s plugin and its theme, then the setup wizard walks you through the rest.
- What counts as a website?
- One licence covers one live website (Agency covers 5). Local and staging copies (localhost, .local, .test, staging.… and dev.… addresses) are free and never use up your licence.
- Can you install it for me?
- Yes. Done-for-you installation is from £99: we install Gradespace Core, the kit and its theme on your hosting, activate your licence, run the setup wizard with your details and hand it over with a short walkthrough. Complete setup and customisation, from £299, adds your content, bookings, forms and emails, small design tweaks, redirects from your old site, a staff training session and 30 days of help after launch. The price depends on your hosting and the size of the site, and is agreed before we start. Prices include VAT where it applies, and the kit licence is bought separately. Ask for a quote on our contact page.
- Can I change the design later?
- Yes. Choose a different design and colour palette in Site Settings → Design & colours at any time; your content stays as it is. You can preview a choice privately before visitors see it.
- How do updates work?
- Updates come from thegradespace.com and install with one click from the WordPress Updates screen. Each release is tested against the current version of WordPress first, and says which version it’s tested up to.
- Can I upgrade later?
- Yes. Move from Starter to Pro or Agency by paying the difference, from your licences page or from the kit’s Licence tab in WordPress. Your key stays the same.
- Refunds
- 14-day money-back: if the kit isn't right for you, ask within 14 days of buying for a full refund (the licence is then switched off).
