Setting up

Designs, pages and menus

The three Venue designs (Estate, Loft and Garden) and their colour palettes, how to choose and preview one, and the pages and menu the setup wizard makes.

On this page

The Venue theme comes with three designs. A design sets the fonts, the shapes and the way each page is laid out; a colour palette sets the accent colours. Your spaces, dates, enquiries and prices stay the same whichever you choose, so you can change the look at any time without losing anything.

For the logo, footer, menus in general and the sticky header, see the shared chapter Your look.

The three designs

Estate

Classic and quiet, for country houses and historic venues. A serif typeface with italic accents, square corners and fine lines, a centred crest with the menu split either side, and a full-width photograph with the date checker on a panel at its foot. This is the design the theme starts with.

The Estate design home page on a computer: a bar with the next open day and phone number, the Wrenfield Hall crest between the menu links, a wide photo of the house by a lake, and a cream panel with the headline and the "Is your date free?" form
The Estate design on a phone: the crest and a menu button at the top, the photo of the house, then the headline and the date checker stacked underneath

Loft

Industrial and direct, for mills, warehouses and city spaces. Condensed capital letters, figures in a typewriter-style font, numbered sections, a capacity table where you choose a row to see the room, a seating plan for each layout and a twelve-week diary.

The Loft design home page: a black header with a yellow W logo, the headline "400 seats. One loading bay." in large capitals, tabs for Weddings, Conferences, Parties and Launches, a photo of rows of metal chairs, and below it a table of every space with its capacity for each layout
The Loft design on a phone: the menu folds into a button, the event tabs wrap onto two rows, and the headline, buttons and photo stack one above the other

Garden

Botanical and light, for gardens, glasshouses and barns. A soft serif, rounded pill buttons, three arched photographs, a date finder where people pick a month and a kind of day, the seasons as tabs and a day at the venue hour by hour.

The Garden design home page: the menu in a rounded bar, a large centred headline "Say it among the sweet peas, then eat under glass", three arched photos of a glasshouse, and a date finder showing Sat 10 Oct free, Sat 17 Oct held with a Waiting list button, and Sat 24 Oct free
The Garden design on a phone, with the headline, the Find a free date and Get the brochure buttons and the arched photos stacked down the page

Colour palettes

Each design has seven palettes: Champagne, Olive, Dusk, Stone, Blush, Navy & red and Charcoal & gold, plus The design's own colours. Every palette has been checked so text stays easy to read against its background.

The Estate design with the Dusk palette: the same home page as before, but the top bar and Enquire button are deep navy and the italic words of the headline are purple
The Garden design with the Blush palette: the Plan a visit and Find a free date buttons and the italic words of the headline are a deep rose instead of green

How to choose a design and palette

  1. Go to Site Settings → Design & colours.
  2. Under Design, click Estate, Garden or Loft.
  3. Under Colour palette, click a palette.
  4. Click Preview on the site. The home page opens in a new tab with your choice, just for you. Visitors still see the old look.

The Design & colours screen: three cards for Estate (chosen), Garden and Loft with a short description of each, the colour palettes as swatches below, a Header section with "Keep the menu at the top when scrolling" ticked, and the Preview on the site and Save buttons

The pages the setup wizard makes

If you tick Starter pages and menu in the setup wizard, it adds these pages, already laid out in your design. Pages you already have are left alone.

PageWhat's on it
HomeYour headline, the date checker, the venue at a glance, the spaces, the diary, packages and prices, gallery, reviews and the brochure.
SpacesEvery space with its capacities for each layout. Each space also has its own page.
DatesThe date checker, the diary month by month, and the date finder.
PricesYour packages and the price guide by season.
GalleryYour tagged photos, with filters.
SuppliersThe supplier directory.
ViewingsViewing times to book and your open days.
BrochureThe form people fill in to get your brochure.
EnquireThe four-step enquiry form.
ContactYour address, phone, email and a contact form.

The wizard also adds legal pages (terms, privacy and cookies) and, if you added the sample photos, a Photo credits page. To change what's on a page, see Pages and content.

The Pages list in the admin, showing the cookie, privacy and terms pages, then Home (marked Front Page), Spaces, Dates, Prices, Gallery, Suppliers, Viewings, Brochure, Enquire and Contact, all published

The main menu

The wizard makes a main menu with Spaces, Dates, Prices, Gallery, Suppliers, Viewings and Enquire. Enquire is shown as a button. The footer adds Contact, Brochure and your legal pages, and a Staff sign-in link.

Each design places the menu its own way: Estate splits it either side of your crest, Loft puts it in a black bar, and Garden puts it in a rounded bar with a Plan a visit button. On phones and tablets every design folds the menu into a button that opens a full-screen menu.

To change the menu, see Your look.
